IG Platform Updates – Where To Start…
The devil works hard but once again Adam Mosseri works harder.
This past week IG and Mosseri have been releasing a plethora of new IG updates, which have been met with furious backlash by none other than queens of the gram Kylie and Kim.
It really is a new dawn for Instagram content, which will mean close monitoring of stats, and considering how clients and content can best lean into the latest Reels trends to maximise engagement.
Checkout the topline breakdown below on all things IG platform updates:
- New boost promotion for Reels clips – it will sit in the lower function bar on eligible Reels, to take users through a quick promotion process. Potentially a good way to artificially create viral trends, if you pay enough…
- To be eligible for boosting, Reels clips must be less than 60 seconds and have a 9:16 aspect ratio (filmed vertically and have a full-screen format). Reels that use third-party IP, e.g. copyrighted music, GIFs, interactive stickers or filters are not eligible for boosting.
- All video uploads will feed into Reels – essentially meaning all video uploads will now become Reels.
IG is also adding a range of new creative tools for Reels editing, including new Remix options:
- Remix for photos: Photos are core to the IG experience, and soon users can remix public photos to give users limitless inspiration to create your own unique Reels.
- Expanded Remix layouts: Choose between a green screen, horizontal, vertical split-screen or picture-in-picture reaction view to add video commentary to existing Reels.
- Add your clip: Have a hot take? Rather than having your remix appear at the same time as the original Reel, you can add your clip after the original so it plays sequentially.
Reels template options are also expanding – existing, popular Reels formats can now be utilised as templates for clips. A new dual camera mode is coming too, so users can capture content and react at the same time, using front and back cameras simultaneously (cough, cough – BeReal you seeing this).
