Social Trend Watch – Edition 7

Twitter’s ‘Brand Bracket 2022’ Competition Has Kicked-off

The TW Brand Bracket promotion draws wider platform audiences into the hype around the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) March Madness tournament by pitting brand TW handles against each other, calling on audiences/followers to vote for the best TW voices in the game.

The end result? An ultimate brand Twitter winner.

The competition is running across Twitter Marketing’s profile and whilst we are only on day 3, the competition is already heating up!

The competition Tweets are extremely useful tools, tone of voice guides and community management touchpoints to review over the coming days to see which brands are bossing the Tweet game and how they are using the platform/competition to engage with their and wider target audiences.

Last year Xbox were the champion, defeating Skittles in the final round, both feature this year and are in tough competition with the likes of Wendys, Delta, Netflix, Pringles, Taco Bell and Sour Patch Kids.

Make sure to cast your votes across this year’s Tweets to decide the new or potentially reigning champion.

The Devil Works Hard, But Adam Mosseri And IG Are Working Harder

Firstly if you’re not following Mosseri on IG, go, go now and follow the head of IG – because his IG Stories the past 2 weeks have been full of nuggs and up-and-coming updates to the platform as we head into Q2.

IG Polls Update

IG have dropped 3 updates last/this week, which include:

  • A new moderator option for IG live streams:
    • IG is adding more capacity to manage live stream broadcasts in the app, enabling users to assign a moderator within the stream.
    • Mods can report comments, review viewers and turn off comments for a specific viewer.
    • It’s a great step in the right direction to provide great control over the flow of content within a stream and address concerns with inappropriate behaviour during IG live sessions.
    • It’s also worth noting that TikTok added these same options in July 2021s
  • A new creator lab to help creators maximise their on-platform performance:
    • IG is looking to help creators have a better understanding of key posting best practices and processes via a new Creator Lab initiative.
    • This will host videos and insights from a range of successful creators on key elements.
    • The section will also include specific information on channel growth, monetisation, safety notes and more, and whilst short, do outline the basics well across algorithms, optimisation and strategy.
  • Increased poll sticker response options to expand engagement across stories, which has now been rolled out globally:
    • All regions, brands, creators and users alike can now utilise the added engagement metric on IG stories poll sticker, enabling users to add up to four responses.

Utilising the updated tools to generate more story engagements with audiences will be key to providing a greater lure for interaction and maximising both responses and reach.

Four responses will aid information gathering for reporting as more in-depth replies are given to feedback more valuable audience insights.
